Generally, if something breaks down on your car, you should call a tow truck to come haul you out of trouble. However, there are times when a tow truck isn't the best option or you just need to have someone give you a quick tow to get you back on the road or out of the snow bank. If that happens, then you want to have options and know how to use them. One option is to use a tow rope, strap, or chain to pull your car.

Tow Rope

A tow rope, strap, or chain is something that is specifically designed to tow a vehicle. A tow rope isn't just a piece of rope that someone grabbed out of their trunk to pull your car out of the ditch. A tow rope would be made out of a thick, heavy-duty rope. It needs to be heavy duty because it is going to have to support the weight of your car. If you are going to use a tow strap, those straps are generally made out nylon webbing and may have a tensioner on the strap so that you can use it to keep a good amount of tension in between the two cars. It doesn't matter what the tow device is made off, it will have a sturdy metal hook on the either end.

Hook it to the Right Place

Once you have the appropriate tow device, you need to make sure that you can actually tow your vehicle. To do that, you need to make sure that you attach the tow rope to the right place. That place is not your bumper. Your car should have a safe attachment point under the frame. Put the hook in there and make sure it's secure, and then you are ready to move.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

When you start towing, you don't want to jerk the car or floor the car. What you want to do is to slowly increase the gas until you are moving. Make sure that you keep all your movements smooth because jerking the car could cause damage to the car or cause it to fall of the tow rope. You don't want to get up to full speed because towing the car will make your car handle differently, and the faster you go, the worse it can be.

Getting your car out of a ditch or snowbank doesn't necessarily mean that you have to call a tow truck. With the right tools, you can do it yourself. Contact a company like Omaha  Slings Inc for more information and assistance.
