If you need to have heating oil in order for your furnace to run in the winter, you probably keep an eye on the price since it can fluctuate from week to week. You want to make sure that you are getting the best price for your heating oil. You can do several things in order to try and keep your heating oil prices down.

Filling in Off-Season

One thing that you can do is to think about filling in the off-season. Instead of waiting until November to get your tank filled up, you can get it filled up in July. Often the price of heating oil will drop during the summer because there isn't the same demand for it as there is during the winter. If you decide to fill up your tank during the summer, you can also decide to fill it up over a few months, which will let you space out the payment that you are going to have to deal with.

Budget Plan

A lot of heating oil companies will have budget plans or price lock plans that you can sign up for. With the budget plan, you are going to pay for your oil over a number of months. The company will take the price of filling up your tank and divide it up by X number of months, usually 12, but the budget plan may be broken down by a shorter period of time. Then, you pay that amount each month, even if you aren't getting your tank filled that month. That will allow you to get a payment you can afford. With a price lock, you can sign a contract at a time when the price per gallon is really good and that will be the price per gallon you will pay whenever you need to get more heating oil. Your price won't go up, but it may also not go down if the price per gallon drops. That will depend on your contract and the company that you are working with. Some companies will allow your contract to adjust if the price drops, but not if it goes back up. You will have to read your contract carefully and talk to the heating oil company.

If you depend on heating oil to make sure that your house stays nice and warm each winter, you want to make sure that you are getting the best price possible. To learn more, get in contact with a heating oil company near you.
