Many specialty tools and equipment items can make a job more manageable, and renting those tools for your construction project is often the best way to get them. Beam lift rentals are one of the best ways to lift heavy overhead beams into place safely, and most equipment rental services can provide one to fit your needs.

Beams And Supporting Structures

In a building that is going to have a lot of open space, supporting the floor above or the roof of the home or structure means using beams to offset the lack of supporting walls. Engineered beams and lumber are readily available and can be custom ordered to fit the space, but putting them into place can be difficult because they are heavy, and the size of the beam can make it challenging to maneuver.

Beam lift rentals can help resolve this problem. The beam lift is engineered to hoist the weight of the beam up into position for you, but there are several sizes and types available, so talk with the local equipment rental to see what they offer. If the beam is extremely large, you will need a lift that can handle the weight and the length of the beam so that the load is stable as you position it inside the structure.

If the beam is not appropriately positioned, it may not fully support the floor above it and could be a concern. Get the weight and specs of the beam from the company that is making it and take that information with you when you are considering beam lift rentals, as it can help you determine the lift you need to do the job correctly.

Lifting The Beam

Once the beam has arrived on-site and the beam lift rental has been delivered, position the beam on the lift inside the structure. The beam should be secured to the lift with the straps provided and then slowly raised into a position near the final location.

Most beam lift rentals have wheels on them that allow you to push or pull the lift forward or backward to position the beam, so once it is aligned, you can slide the beam into place and lower the lift enough to set the weight of the beam on the supports. Leave the beam lift in place while securing the beam to ensure it does not move or fall after it is in place.

After the beam is secured, you can remove the straps, lower the lift, and remove it. If you have several beams to lift, repeat the process until they are all in place and secure. Once the job is finished, you can have the beam lift rental company pick up the lift for you or deliver it back to the equipment rental store if you have a vehicle that can move it.
